Client Overview
Wonderpunch is a UK video production agency offering services across corporate video production, TV advertising, social videos, animation, product videos, 360/VR video and portfolio-led creative work.
The website operates in a competitive creative services market where organic performance depends on clear service positioning, strong case studies, local/commercial relevance, authority, content depth, portfolio quality and strong alignment between search intent and service pages.
What the Client Needed
Wonderpunch needed an intermediate SEO audit to investigate weak organic performance, ranking losses and the reasons behind a significant drop in impressions.
The audit reviewed Search Console data, query performance, page contribution, technical SEO, indexation, service page performance, portfolio content quality, structured data, internal links, rendering and broader domain quality.
โThe site had been receiving impressions from low-ranking queries rather than established page-one visibility โ exposing the real issue behind the impression collapse.โ
Key audit finding
The Challenge
The main challenge was that Wonderpunch had very limited organic traction despite operating in a commercially valuable niche. Organic impressions had dropped heavily, with a significant decline beginning around late 2025. Part of the impression collapse appeared linked to Google's removal of &num=100, which reduced visibility for sites ranking predominantly beyond page one.
The site was heavily reliant on brand searches and a small number of portfolio or service-related pages. Query coverage was weak. Many relevant terms such as video production agency London, video production company London, TV advertising, social videos, animation and corporate video production either had very low click contribution or had dropped out significantly.
A further challenge was page quality. Much of the site was made up of portfolio pages, but many were thin, low-context pages that did not explain the project, the client brief, the creative process, the service delivered or the outcome.
โPortfolio pages needed to be treated as case studies rather than thin gallery entries โ adding project narratives covering the brief, the challenge, the creative solution and measurable results.โ
Key finding from the audit
The Goal
The goal was to understand why organic performance was weak and identify what needed to change for Wonderpunch to compete for video production terms. The audit needed to answer:
- Why had impressions dropped so sharply?
- Were service pages genuinely ranking, or were they only receiving low-value impressions?
- Which service areas had the strongest or weakest organic footprint?
- Were portfolio pages helping the domain or dragging down perceived quality?
- Were there any technical SEO issues limiting performance?
- Was the site structure clear enough for services and portfolio content?
- Which pages should be improved, noindexed, removed or rewritten?
- What needed to change for Wonderpunch to compete for video production terms?
What We Did
We carried out an intermediate SEO audit across Wonderpunch, covering organic performance, technical SEO, indexation, service page quality, portfolio content and site structure. The audit included:
A key finding was that the website's portfolio pages needed to be treated as case studies rather than thin gallery entries.
What Was Achieved
The audit gave Wonderpunch a clearer diagnosis of why the site was underperforming. It showed that the decline was not simply a sudden technical failure โ the more important issue was very little established page-one visibility, weak query coverage, low authority, limited topical depth and thin portfolio pages.
Several service pages were not strong enough to carry their target terms. Pages for TV advertising, social videos, animation, product videos, corporate video production and 360/VR video had very limited click contribution.
From a technical perspective, the site was generally renderable but there were specific fixes: a corporate video production page incorrectly canonicalised to the homepage, oversized images, short or overlong titles, bad content-type/MIME handling, missing security headers, internal redirects and opportunities to extend structured data.
From a content perspective, many dead or weak URLs were portfolio-led. The recommendation was to build richer service pages and upgrade portfolio entries into stronger proof-led assets.
